Glory Zone v1.2
Glory Zone - 3D arcade style space shooter with an integrated mp3 player! An unknown alien race is sending fleet after fleet of their automatic space fighters in an attempt to conquer our world.
YOU are our only hope! Intercept the alien fleets in deep space and destroy them before they reach the Earth.

What's new in Glory Zone v1.2?
- Glory Zone now has autofire.
Just hold down the fire key. However, at some moments (for example skill levels) you may prefer to fire in the old way because you can probably fire faster than autofire rate which is 4 missiles per second.
All alpha (translucent) textures are exchanged with RGBA textures.
It seems that some notebooks/laptops with older SiS graphics adapters have display drivers with poorly implemented OpenGL.
- Improved timing.
On some NT, 2000 or XP systems Glory Zone performed badly. Hopefully, not any more...
Better joystick support.
Now Glory Zone uses DirectInput for joystick handling. Only if there isn't DirectInput it will use Windows joystick support. USB joystick should finally work correctly now.
- Some bugs are corrected.
For more details about bugs check out history.
Controls
Through the menus you can navigate with keyboard or joystick, but not with mouse. (If you cannot move through the menus try to run the game with disabled joystick.)
Keyboard navigation is done with arrows, return (or enter, space) and ESC keys.
Joystick navigation is done by pushing (or pressing) the direction, and fire button. Fire button is by default the first button, but it can be changed.
This game does not support the mouse! Please do not try to move your ship or navigate the menu with it.
You can pause current game with ESC.
While in game, either in some menu or playing, you can press F1 to see other ingame shortcut keys.
You control your space ship with three keys.
LEFT ARROW = move left
RIGHT ARROW = move right
CONTROL = fire
You can redefine the keys by choosing OPTIONS...CONTROLLER.
To redefine joystick buttons, press return at the TYPE option. This will switch to the joystick page. If you have joystick with multiple buttons you can assign music player controls to them!
Game Objective
In this game you fly through space in a space ship and destroy enemies with missiles. For every enemy ship destroyed you earn some points. When destroyed, some of the enemies leaves objects behind them. Collecting these objects can give you additional points, speed, faster weapon, shield or extra life, but beware of the question marks! As well as give, they can also take some of the upgrades from your ship.
Of course, game objective is to earn as many points as possible.
You get an extra life at 50,000 points, and at every 100,000 points. You can have maximum of seven spare lives. If you have seven spare lives and make for example 500,000 points, you will get 10,000 points instead of a life.
Game Levels
Game is divided into two types of levels: BATTLE levels, and SKILL levels.
There is total of 32 battle levels, and 8 skill levels in the game (for registered users, of course). When you complete the last level, the game will continue from the first one.
In BATTLE levels enemies are comming in waves and take their places in the fleet. Once all of them have settled, they will attack you, either alone or by following a chief. Sometimes, there are so called "runaways" from incoming waves. If you manage to destroy all of the runaways from a single wave you will get runaway bonus as follows:
2 runaways = 500 points
3 runaways = 1000 points
4 runaways = 2000 points
In SKILL levels you won't be in any kind of danger! Several enemy waves will pass in front of you, and your task is just to destroy as many enemies as you can. If you destroy all of the enemies in some wave you will get special bonus. There can be 8, 10, or 12 enemies in a single wave, and special bonus is 1000, 1500 and 2000 points respectively. Once all of the waves have passed, you will get skill bonus accordingly to the percentage of the enemies shot down. Here are the relations:
100% = 10000 points
95%-99% = 5000 points
90%-94% = 4000 points
80%-89% = 3000 points
60%-79% = 2000 points
40%-59% = 1000 points
20%-39% = 500 points
0%-19% = 0 points
Every fifth level is a skill level.
MP3 Playlist
Glory Zone has integrated mp3 player. Playlist inside the game can have maximum of 50 entries.
To compose a playlist go to the OPTIONS...SOUND and choose EDIT PLAYLIST.
With left, right (either arrows, or joystick directions) you move from the "file list" over the "menu" to the "playlist". While in file list or playlist, pressing up or down will move you up or down in the list.
If you are in file list, pressing the return (space, joystick fire button) will:
put the song into the playlist, or
move you to some subdirectory (or up one level, or root), or
change the drive
If you are in playlist, pressing the return will:
remove the song from the playlist
Above the file list and playlist you can find complete name of the song (or subdirectory), and current directory (the directory which is listed in the file list). This is done because in some lower display modes and especially when you are in top view mode, the names of the files can be too long to fit into file/play list.
Recall that even if you like to play in top view mode you can easily (F2) change it to 3D view which is because of the wide display more appropriate for editing playlist.
FILL PLAYLIST will fill the remaining of the playlist from the first song (in alphabetical order) in the file list.
Once you have composed the playlist there is several ways of controling it, but remember, music player controls work only outside the EDIT PLAYLIST:
you can control it by the function keys (F5-F9)
you can assign your joystick buttons to music player controls
you can go to OPTIONS...SOUND and choose MUSIC CONTROL CENTER
To see the function keys assigned to music player press F1 or go to OPTIONS and choose SHORTCUTS.
